Office of International Affairs joined hands with Singapore Polytechnic to organize Learning Express 2026, bringing together 32 KMITL students and 3 advisors with 33 Singapore Polytechnic students and 3 advisors on a journey from real community challenges to innovative prototypes.
The program kicked off at KMITL with inspiring remarks from university executives and Singapore Polytechnic representatives, followed by ice-breaking activities, a session on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and intensive Design Thinking workshops. Students practiced interview techniques, empathy building, and collaborative problem-solving, supported by campus life orientation and a host language session to strengthen cross-cultural understanding.
From the classroom, the team moved into the field at Hua Takhe Old Market, where they conducted “Sense & Sensibility” studies and interviews with community members. They explored real issues—from elderly care and access management to sustainable waste management—then transformed these insights into user needs and solution concepts. Through iterative ideation and prototyping, and with feedback from experts and local stakeholders, ideas gradually took shape.
The journey culminated in a Gallery Walk, where six community-focused prototypes were showcased:
1️⃣ Hua Takhe 3D Model – a 3D market model that clearly visualizes the entire area
2️⃣ Hua Takhe Old Market Map – a map highlighting key locations such as shops, the health center, and emergency exits
3️⃣ Hua Takhe Community Waste Management Map – a waste management plan with upcycling activities turned into creative art workshops for tourists
4️⃣ BAO SUAY – a remote alert device supporting elderly living alone through a community monitoring board
5️⃣ EcoCroc Connect – a point-based app rewarding waste separation with redeemable items and services in the community
6️⃣ LOCKLET – an emergency notification device designed to enhance safety for older adults
From understanding real problems to testing real solutions, LeX 2026 marks an important beginning for Thai and international students to co-create innovation, develop their potential, build global friendships, and drive communities toward sustainability.
